To say Natalie Grunberg loves all things Français is hardly an understatement—after all, her brother serves up French-influenced West Coast fare at L’Abbatoir in Gastown, her parents’ preferred summer vacation spot is in France and her loyal companion is a schnoodle named Henri.
“I love France,” says the self-confessed Francophile. “I love the cheese, I love the croissants, I love the pain au chocolat, I love the wine, I like cycling along the streets and hearing French music in the distance…I’m inspired by France.”
No surprise, then, that, while on a trip to Paris in 2008, Grunberg was struck with the idea to start an online subscription service to help spread a particularly ‘cheeky’ aspect of French culture all over the world.
“People present themselves so beautifully in France; women get dressed up just to walk down the street and pick up their daily bread. There’s a sense of pride and self-respect, and it got me thinking: there must be a special secret,” she explains. “So I asked a few women, and they said it’s all about their underwear. French women take a lot of pride in what’s underneath their clothes.”
Back in Vancouver, Grunberg signed an exclusive agreement with Montreal’s Blush Lingerie and launched Panty by Post. Three-and-a-half years later, with endorsements from celebs like Kim Cattrall and former Bachelorette Jillian Harris, business is booming, with new subscribers signing up daily to receive panties—how else?—by post.
Here’s how it works: simply visit pantybypost.com, choose the signature or bridal line (there’s also a men’s package), select your size (extra small to extra curvy) and preferred styles (thongs, no thongs or a mix), pick a two-, three-, six- or 12-month subscription…et voila! You, too, will receive a fresh pair in the mail each month.
